I Am the Way

Season 1 Episode 21

This morning, Will Dyer takes a look at Jesus's claim to be "the way" in chapter 14 of the Gospel of John. To understand what that means, though, we take a trip through first through philosophy and then through a three-part principle from Hinduism.

Please find the slide deck for this week's teaching here.

Home Church Questions:

1. What stood out to you from Sunday’s teaching?

2. Throughout Church history, many traditions and pastors have used their authority to dictate how scripture is understood. In our church tradition, we meet in groups regularly to read, study, and (hopefully) understand scripture collectively. What has been your experience with either of these approaches? What value do these approaches have?

3. Read Philippians 2:1-13. What stands out to you in this passage? Do you see ways that this passage connects to Sunday’s teaching?

4. What does it mean for every knee to bow and every tongue to confess that Jesus is Lord?

5. Read John 14:1-7. What stands out to you in this passage?

6. How do you see the three paths in your own life? Do you tend to favour one over the others? Is there one that you could improve upon?

7. What does it mean for Jesus to be “the way”?

8. If you have time and inclination, read Romans 1:18-23. What do you think of Paul’s argument here? Are you persuaded or are you skeptical?

9. Pray with and for one another.
