I Am the Life

The Harbour Season 1 Episode 26

This morning, Sarah Lyew continues the "I Am..." series with "I Am the Life". There is a fascinating connection between God's breath and the life that he gives us which she explores here. Also, you might be tempted to get Mike's side of the story of their proposal.

Please find the slide deck for this week's teaching here.

Home Church Questions:

1. When is a time in your life you felt fully alive? What was it like? Why that moment?

2. What stood out to you from Sunday's teaching?

3. Read Genesis 2:4-7. What does it mean for God to "breathe life into" Adam? Does it matter that it was God’s breath?

4. There is a close relationship between breath and spirit in both the Greek and the Hebrew texts. Sarah referenced the intimacy that comes with our spirit and our life breath. What’s your understanding of 'spirit'? Do you think we have one? What’s the difference between my spirit and other parts of us?

5. Read John 19:28-30 and Luke 23:44-46. Jesus giving up his spirit and breathing his last breath both reference the Greek term 'pneuma' ('breath'). Sarah suggests there’s a connection between Genesis 2 and these accounts. The first existence of our spirit and the salvation for our spirit are both brought about by God’s breath. How do you see the connection? What is the significance of this?

6. Read John 20:19-23. The Spirit is referred to in the Greek as both paracalete ('advocate') and pneuma ('breath'). The breath of Life, bringing New life. Looking at the Trinity through these connections, what do you see?

7. Read Romans 6:1-7 and 8:1-4. What does it look like to live a new life? What is the promise made through Jesus’ death and life? How does it impact you?

8. Pray with and for one another.
