Following Jesus: God's Plan for Us

Season 2 Episode 11

This week, Dave Blow returns with part two of his "Following Jesus" teaching which he started on during the Community Sunday on November 2nd. God has a plan for each of us. Jesus does not compare us with others, so neither should we compare ourselves with others.

Please find the slide deck for this week's teaching here.

Home Church Questions:

1. Have there been any 'Ikea moments' in your life where it just felt hard to follow? If so, what was holding you back?

2. What stood out to you from this week's teaching?

3. Read John 21:15-23 (preferably in multiple translations). What stands out to you from this passage?

4. Why do you think Jesus asked Peter “Do you love me?” instead of “Why did you deny me?” What does this reveal about the kind of relationship Jesus desires with his followers?

5. Jesus connects Peter’s love for him with caring for his sheep. How does our love for Jesus show itself in how we treat others? What might “feeding” or “tending” Jesus’s sheep look like in your life? How about our life as a Harbour community?

6. Jesus had said “follow me” when he first called Peter (John 1:43), and now repeats it after Peter’s failure. What does this say about Jesus’s patience and willingness to give us second chances? How does this challenge the way we view our own failures or those of others?

7. In verses 18–19, Jesus hints that Peter will face suffering for following him. What might it cost you personally to follow Jesus faithfully today? How can we prepare our hearts to follow Jesus even when it’s difficult or unpopular?

8. When you hear Jesus say “follow me”, what does that mean to you right now—in your work, your relationships, your daily choices? Is there any area of your life where Jesus may be inviting you to follow him more closely or trust him more deeply?

9. Pray with and for one another.
