Ecclesiastes 7:10-14 (NIV)
Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?”
For it is not wise to ask such questions.
Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing
and benefits those who see the sun.
Wisdom is a shelter
as money is a shelter,
but the advantage of knowledge is this:
Wisdom preserves those who have it.
Consider what God has done:
Who can straighten
what he has made crooked?
When times are good, be happy;
but when times are bad, consider this:
God has made the one
as well as the other.

This week's scripture comes from the book of Ecclesiastes, chapter 7, verses 10 through 14 in the New International Version. Allow yourself to be still, to breathe slowly, and to recenter your scattered senses upon the presence of God. We will read this week's scripture thrice, pausing for a moment of reflection after each reading. This scripture is a gift to be received, not a problem to be dissected. This scripture is a gift to be received slowly and to be savored. This scripture will become a prayer to be taken away with us into our week. In our first reading, listen for a word or phrase that stands out to you. After the reading, silently repeat that word or phrase in your mind. Do not say, why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions. Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is a shelter, as money is a shelter. But the advantage of knowledge is this wisdom preserves those who have it. Consider what God has done. Who can straighten what he has made crooked? When times are good, be happy. But when times are bad, consider this. God has made the one as well as the other. Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing. And benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is a shelter, as money is a shelter. But the advantage of knowledge is this wisdom preserves those who have it. Consider what God has done. Who can straighten what he has made crooked? When times are good, be happy. But when times are bad, consider this. Do not say why were the old days better than these, for it is not wise to ask such questions. Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter. But the advantage of knowledge is this wisdom preserves those who have it. Consider what God has done. Who can straighten what he has made crooked? When times are good, be happy. But when times are bad, consider this. God has made the one as well as the other. Thank you for hearing our prayers. Amen.
